Below are drawings based on the THE VEIL OF VERONICA the other image not made by hands.
Veronica combines the words, vera icon or true image. It's origin is debated, but it is believed to have been touched to the face of Christ during his lifetime. It is a very faint image on cloth, but during a rare exposition in St. Peter's Basilica in 1849 the image miraculously appeared clearly, and not only could it be seen in detail but it appeared as if alive and lighted. Bells were rung, people gathered and a drawing was made of the face as it appeared during those three hours. The pope authorized copies of the drawing to be made on linen, and they were distributed to the faithful to be venerated.
